Dubovac was a market town from the 14th century, and a very profitable one. This medieval market was very attractive because of its position on the border between continental and maritime Croatia. They had they own weight measurement - kupljenik (metreta quarta Dubovaciensis). The businessmen from the Adriatic coast traded salt for grain. The boatmen were taking away the salt down the Kupa River in order to return from Panonia loaded with grain. Considering how profitable the exchange was, it wasn’t long until a goldsmith, shoe-makers and tailors moved into the town. That reveals also that a burgher ladies and sirs liked to decorate and show themselves. It is even possible that the Renaissance aesthetics entered the every-day life as news from the west.

For every statement there is a documented historical proof. Or few of them. It is our duty to study them and carefully, with historians help, reconstruct the way in which the fair was held.

We hope that we will emphasize a role that these crafts play also in our society, and encourage young people to consider a call of the craftsman, so underestimated today, in the era of supermarkets and globalisation.
